Are we really significant?

As I sit here contemplating the disasters of the past few months and more of the past few days, I think of the possibility of the end of our existence as we know it.
As much as we would like to think of our existence as human beings, compared to eternity and evolution of the all, we are really pretty insignificant.
Our food sources are drying up with the depletion of the soil from over farming, disasters abound and are getting worse, and war is always a possibility of our destruction.
We can make drastic changes by leaning on new food sources such as algea and building more storm resistent homes, but if an ice age is upon us and the earth shifts poles suddenly, nothing will help.
I think about the importance of us as humans in the immensity of multiple universes and beyond and think, If we are soul and it is eternal, what new form will soul take to express itself next?
